Usually seen in Southern India, like Kerala, this potato dish is a great accompaniment to rice, yoghurt and some other curry.
INGREDIENTS
| ITEM | QUANTITY |
| Potato | 4 medium, diced small |
| Urid Daal (black gram) | 1 tablespoon |
| Mustard seeds | 1 tablespoon |
| Turmeric powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
| Red Chilli powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
| Water | 1-2 tablesoon |
| Salt | 1/2 teaspoon |
| Oil | Ghee, coconut oil, sunflower or rice bran |
METHOD
- Dice the potatoes and soak in water. Drain and pat dry.
- Add turmeric and red chilli powder to the potato. Mix well, set aside.
- Heat a saucepan with oil.
- Crackle mustard seeds.
- Add Urid daal. Let it brown slightly.
- Add the marinated potatoes. Mix everything well.
- Add salt and a water.
- Cover and cook till potatoes are done.

That’s it!
Traditionally, they are served with rice, curry, yoghurt, pickle and papadums. But you can also put them inside a hot dog bun, and have it as a snack while traveling 🙂
