First up – sorry! I didn’t take any photos of the ingredients and the preparations 🙁 I was in a hurry to make it as I had to rush out the door for an appointment. Luckily, this recipe is easy to make so you may not need many photos after all!
INGREDIENTS | QUANTITY |
Potatoes (large) | Cubes, medium size, 2 cups |
Cheddar cheese | A cup |
Turmeric | 1 tablespoon |
Hing/Asafoetida | 1 tablespoon |
Biriyani powder | 2 tablespoons |
Salt | 1 tablespoon |
Sugar | 1 tablespoon |
Olive oil | 2 tablespoons |
Lemon juice | 2-3 tablespoons |
Your local south asian grocery store will have the biriyani powder. Any brand will do. I used the below one today:

STEPS
- Preheat the oven to 250c on the grill setting.
- Peel the potatoes, and cut them into chunky cubes.
- Except for the cheese, add all other ingredients to the potatoes, and give it a very good mix.
- Lay out the spiced potato cubes in a baking/grilling tray. Lay a baking paper first if you are using a pizza tray with holes.
- Grill for about 25 minutes until the potatoes look dark.
- Then, top the potatoes with the cheddar cheese.
- Grill for another 10 minutes till the cheese turns dark brown as well.
- Turn off the grill, take the tray out, and pour/squeeze the lemon juice over it.
- Serve and enjoy!
